Install LeadHunter USA Desktop
About five minutes to set up.
Set it up in six steps
These are the steps for a Windows PC.
On your computer
Install LeadHunter USA
On your computer, open LeadHunter-USA-Setup.exe from your Downloads folder. Then:
- Choose Installation Options: keep Only for me. It is already picked. Click Next.
- Choose Install Location: click Install.
- Completing LeadHunter USA Setup: leave Run LeadHunter USA ticked. Click Finish.
If Windows says Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
On your computer
Sign in
The Welcome to LeadHunter USA window opens. Click Next → until you see I'm ready, let's go →, and click it.
Next you see Let's turn your scanner on. Click Get started ›.
Your browser opens the sign-in page by itself. Sign in with the same email you use on this website.
The browser asks to open LeadHunter USA. Click Open LeadHunter USA. The window then says Signed in.
The sign-in link lasts 10 minutes. If it runs out, click Open the sign-in page again.
Closed the window, or clicked Skip?
It does not open again by itself. Find the LeadHunter USA icon next to the clock. Right-click it and pick Sign in… from the menu.
Icon hidden? Click the ^ next to the clock.
Once you are signed in, the menu shows Finish setup… until Facebook and Nextdoor are both connected.
On your computer
Connect Facebook and Nextdoor
The same window now shows Facebook. Log in there the way you always do.
A green strip says Facebook connected — now click "Connect Nextdoor" below. Click Connect Nextdoor ›.
Log in to Nextdoor the same way. Then click Continue › (or Finish ›).
Only use one of them? Click I don't use Facebook or I don't use Nextdoor. One is enough to start. They reach different neighbors, though, so both find more.
Your password goes straight to Facebook. We never see it. The same goes for Nextdoor. What we see
Closed the window before you finished?
Right-click the icon next to the clock and pick Finish setup… from the menu. The Connect window starts again from the beginning.
On your computer
Pick your groups
Next you see Pick the groups worth watching. We tick 6 for you. Click Continue ›.
This screen only shows when Facebook is connected. You can change your groups later on the Groups page of your dashboard, or in the phone app.
The last screen says You're all set. Leave Keep computer awake on, and click Close.
On your computer
Keep it running
LeadHunter USA scans by itself while the computer is on. Here is what keeps it going.
Plugged in, lid open
A closed lid puts the computer to sleep, and scanning stops. No app can prevent that.
Keep computer awake is on
Setup turns it on, so the computer stays awake while plugged in. The screen can still go dark.
Quiet at night
No scans from 10 PM to 7 AM. It starts again by itself in the morning.
Where it lives
The icon next to the clock. Hidden? Click the ^. Right-click it for the menu.
Closed it? Open LeadHunter USA from the Start menu. After a restart, it opens by itself.
On your phone
Get the phone app
Scan this code with your phone's camera. It opens the App Store on an iPhone, or Google Play on Android. Sign in with the same email.
The phone app alerts you when a new lead comes in. Without it, leads still show on your dashboard.
If something goes wrong
Problems while installing.
“Windows protected your PC”On Windows
This blue box can appear when you run the installer.
Click More info. Then click Run anyway.
LeadHunter USA is digitally signed. Windows shows this warning for many new downloads.
It says “not supported on this Mac”On a Mac
You downloaded the Apple Silicon version, but this Mac has an Intel chip.
Download the Intel version instead, and open that one.
To check your chip, open the Apple menu and click About This Mac. “Processor … Intel” means Intel.
My Mac asks to install RosettaOn a Mac
You downloaded the Intel version on an Apple Silicon Mac. It still works.
Click Install and let it finish. Then open LeadHunter USA again if it didn’t open by itself.
Or download the Apple Silicon version instead. It doesn’t need Rosetta.
“LeadHunter USA” is damaged and can’t be openedOn a Mac
Something went wrong with the download.
Download LeadHunter USA again. Then open the new file, not the old one.
My Mac won’t let me open itOn a Mac
Open the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
Scroll down. Next to LeadHunter USA, click Open Anyway. Then click Open.
On macOS 12, it is System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General.
Still blocked? Your Mac may be managed by a company. Ask whoever runs it.
I clicked “Not now”On a Mac
Then LeadHunter USA won’t start again after a restart. Leads keep coming while it’s open.
To fix it, click the LeadHunter USA icon in the menu bar. Choose Quit LeadHunter USA.
Open the file you downloaded. Drag LeadHunter USA into your Applications folder.
Then open LeadHunter USA from Applications.
Nothing happens when I open it
LeadHunter USA is probably already running. Opening it again doesn’t show a new window.
On Windows
Look for its icon next to the clock, at the bottom-right. Hidden? Click the ^ (Show hidden icons).
On a Mac
Look for its icon in the menu bar, at the top-right of your screen.
Clicking its icon in the Dock does nothing yet. The icon to use is in the menu bar.
I can’t find the icon
On Windows
It sits next to the clock, at the bottom-right of your screen.
If it’s hidden, click the ^ (Show hidden icons) next to the clock.
Still not there? Open the Start menu and click LeadHunter USA.
On a Mac
It sits in the menu bar, at the top-right of your screen, near the clock.
On a MacBook with a notch, a full menu bar can hide it. Quit a few apps with icons up there.
Still not there? Open your Applications folder and double-click LeadHunter USA.
My browser asked to open LeadHunter USA
That’s your sign-in finishing. Say yes.
On Windows
In Chrome or Edge, click Open LeadHunter USA.
On a Mac
In Safari, click Allow. In Chrome or Edge, click Open LeadHunter USA.
The LeadHunter USA window then shows Signed in and moves on by itself.
The sign-in page never finished
The sign-in link works for 10 minutes.
Go back to the LeadHunter USA window. Click Open the sign-in page again.
Sign in with the same email you use on the website.
If your browser asks to open LeadHunter USA, allow it.
Windows asks me to insert a security keyOn Windows
This can pop up on the Facebook step. It comes from Facebook when your account has a passkey.
If you don’t use a security key, click Cancel.
Then log in to Facebook with your password, as usual.

Your Facebook and Nextdoor logins stay on your computer. We only receive a post after it matches your keywords.
✓ What we see: your account email, posts that match your keywords, the group or feed each one came from, and your good/bad votes on leads.
✗ What we never see: your passwords, your friends, messages or photos, posts that don't match your keywords, or anything you browse elsewhere.
