Your Line records calls so you can listen to them later. Who hears a notice, and how to turn recording off.

The Record calls switch

Record calls is on when you start. Calls on your business number are recorded, so you can listen to them later. With Line Pro, every call is also written out for you.

Turn it off on the Business Line page, or in the app under Settings → Phone line → Calls, voicemail and recording. Off, calls aren’t recorded. Recordings from before stay.

Calls coming in

With recording on, callers hear “This call may be recorded and transcribed by us and our service providers.” before the call rings.

Pick State your business is in in the app’s call settings. Until you do, every caller hears the notice.

When your business is in a state where everyone on the call must agree, like California, every caller hears it. In other states you can turn it off in the app, after you tick that you are responsible. We save who agreed, when, and on which phone.

Callers from states that require it always hear the notice.

Calls you make

Nobody hears an automatic notice on a call you make.

With recording on, every call you make is recorded from the moment it is answered, in every state.

To a state where everyone must agree, like California, or when your business is in one, the call screen reminds you: say “This call is recorded.” at the start of the call. Saying it is up to you.

Customers in other states may require the notice. You are responsible for following the law that applies to each call.

Your recordings

Recordings are on each customer’s card, and in Call recordings: press Open recordings on the Business Line page.

They delete automatically 90 days after the call, or after 12 months when you saved the call to your customers. Press Keep to hold on to one.
