Asking for a deposit
Last updated:
Ask for a deposit when a quote is approved, as a percent or a dollar amount, and see it come off the invoice.
Scout says: Money for materials, before you buy the materials.
On one quote
In the quote, add a deposit as a percent or a dollar amount. The customer sees Deposit due on approval.
Deposits are for quotes. An invoice asks for the balance.
On every quote
Open Quote & invoice settings and tick Ask for a deposit when a quote is approved.
It is off until you turn it on. You can still add, change or remove it on each quote.
Getting the deposit
With card payments on, the customer can pay the deposit by card on the quote page once they approve it.
Paid another way? Open the quote and press Mark deposit paid.
When you make the invoice from the quote, the deposit shows as Deposit received, and the invoice asks for the rest.
Some states limit how big a deposit can be. See contractor deposit limits.
