Installing the desktop app

Install LeadHunter USA Alerts on a Windows or Mac computer, and fix the problems people hit while installing.
Scout says: Download, open, sign in. I take it from there.
What you need
A Windows or Mac computer that stays on, plugged in, with the lid open.
The LeadHunter USA app on your phone, for the alerts.
Install it
Follow the install guide. It picks Windows or Mac and shows every step with pictures.
If something goes wrong
“Windows protected your PC”On Windows
This blue box can appear when you run the installer.
Click More info. Then click Run anyway.
LeadHunter USA is digitally signed. Windows shows this warning for many new downloads.
It says “not supported on this Mac”On a Mac
You downloaded the Apple Silicon version, but this Mac has an Intel chip.
Download the Intel version instead, and open that one.
To check your chip, open the Apple menu and click About This Mac. “Processor … Intel” means Intel.
My Mac asks to install RosettaOn a Mac
You downloaded the Intel version on an Apple Silicon Mac. It still works.
Click Install and let it finish. Then open LeadHunter USA again if it didn’t open by itself.
Or download the Apple Silicon version instead. It doesn’t need Rosetta.
“LeadHunter USA” is damaged and can’t be openedOn a Mac
Something went wrong with the download.
Download LeadHunter USA again. Then open the new file, not the old one.
My Mac won’t let me open itOn a Mac
Open the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
Scroll down. Next to LeadHunter USA, click Open Anyway. Then click Open.
On macOS 12, it is System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General.
Still blocked? Your Mac may be managed by a company. Ask whoever runs it.
I clicked “Not now”On a Mac
Then LeadHunter USA won’t start again after a restart. Leads keep coming while it’s open.
To fix it, click the LeadHunter USA icon in the menu bar. Choose Quit LeadHunter USA.
Open the file you downloaded. Drag LeadHunter USA into your Applications folder.
Then open LeadHunter USA from Applications.
Nothing happens when I open it
LeadHunter USA is probably already running. Opening it again doesn’t show a new window.
On Windows
Look for its icon next to the clock, at the bottom-right. Hidden? Click the ^ (Show hidden icons).
On a Mac
Look for its icon in the menu bar, at the top-right of your screen.
Clicking its icon in the Dock does nothing yet. The icon to use is in the menu bar.
I can’t find the icon
On Windows
It sits next to the clock, at the bottom-right of your screen.
If it’s hidden, click the ^ (Show hidden icons) next to the clock.
Still not there? Open the Start menu and click LeadHunter USA.
On a Mac
It sits in the menu bar, at the top-right of your screen, near the clock.
On a MacBook with a notch, a full menu bar can hide it. Quit a few apps with icons up there.
Still not there? Open your Applications folder and double-click LeadHunter USA.
My browser asked to open LeadHunter USA
That’s your sign-in finishing. Say yes.
On Windows
In Chrome or Edge, click Open LeadHunter USA.
On a Mac
In Safari, click Allow. In Chrome or Edge, click Open LeadHunter USA.
The LeadHunter USA window then shows Signed in and moves on by itself.
The sign-in page never finished
The sign-in link works for 10 minutes.
Go back to the LeadHunter USA window. Click Open the sign-in page again.
Sign in with the same email you use on the website.
If your browser asks to open LeadHunter USA, allow it.
Windows asks me to insert a security keyOn Windows
This can pop up on the Facebook step. It comes from Facebook when your account has a passkey.
If you don’t use a security key, click Cancel.
Then log in to Facebook with your password, as usual.
