Moving your number to the Line

Scout says: Same number on the truck. New home behind it.

Last updated:

Keep the business number your customers know. Moving it is free and takes about 1–2 weeks. Never move your phone’s own number.

Which numbers can move

An office line, an old business number, or a second line.

Don’t move the number of the phone in your hand. That phone would lose its calls, texts and internet, and the app would stop working on it. The Line runs on your phone’s internet, so keep the phone plan you have now.

Move it

  1. Step 1: Open Business Line in the menu and choose Bring a number you already have. In the app: Settings → Phone line → Calls, voicemail and recording → Move my number.
  2. Step 2: Type the number. We check that it can move.
  3. Step 3: Fill in the name and address exactly as on your phone bill, the account number and, if it asks, the PIN. Add a photo of a recent bill.
  4. Step 4: Press Send and email me the form.
  5. Step 5: Twilio, the phone company we use, emails you a form to sign. Sign it today. The move starts only after you sign. If it isn’t signed within 30 days, the request is canceled.

While it moves

Moving is free and takes about 1–2 weeks. The Business Line page shows where it stands, and we email you the date.

Until then, your Line works on the number it has now. When the move is done, calls to the moved number ring your Line, and calls to the number you had keep reaching you for 30 days.

On the phone that has the number now, turn off iMessage (iPhone) or RCS chat (Android) before the move, or texts may not reach you for a while.

Don’t cancel your old line until we tell you the move is done. Cancel it first and the number can be lost. Most carriers close it by themselves then. Check your next bill.
